Integrate Begins $5.3 Million Renovations to City of Kirkwood Ice Rink

Integrate Construction Partners (Integrate) has begun a $5.3 million renovation to the Kirkwood Ice Rink, a community recreation facility owned by the City of Kirkwood, MO.

Located in the Kirkwood Community Center at 111 S Geyer Road, the municipal ice rink was built in 1999 and generates a significant amount of revenue for the city’s parks and recreation department through its youth hockey and skating programs. The ice rink renovations are the final phase of an $11 million, three-phase project to upgrade the entire community center.

The ice rink renovations focus on modernizing key building systems and improving the performance and experience of the rink for athletes, families and spectators.

"Projects like the Kirkwood Ice Rink are meaningful because they directly support the community. We're excited to work alongside the City of Kirkwood, Navigate Building Solutions, Chiodini Architects, and our many consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to modernize the facility and improve the experience for everyone who uses it," said Integrate President Scott Zola.

The ice rink renovations include full replacement of its refrigeration system due to its cooling system using R-22 freon, a coolant that is being phased out due to its ozone-depleting properties. The renovations also include installation of a new central plant and other mechanical and infrastructure upgrades, plus a new skating surface.

Additional upgrades include:

  • Painting the overhead structure
  • LED lighting improvements
  • Installing new dasher boards and protective glass around the rink

The renovations officially kicked off on March 2, 2026, with early work including removal of the ice surface down to the slab, which took approximately 12 hours to complete. The rink is expected to reopen in August 2026.
